Animal Sounds

Animal Sounds

Privacy

The short version: the app collects nothing about you. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics, and after the download it makes no network requests at all.

Who is behind the app

Animal Sounds is made by Forrit ehf., an Icelandic company. Forrit ehf. is the data controller for anything described on this page, and processing is governed by Icelandic act no. 90/2018 on data protection and by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Questions about privacy go to hallo@animalsoundsapp.com.

What the app collects

Nothing. There is no sign-up and no sign-in, so there is no name, email address or profile to hold. The app contains no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party SDKs, and it asks for no permissions — not the microphone, camera, location, photo library or contacts.

Every photo and recording is bundled into the download, which is why the app works on a plane and in the back of a car. After it is installed it makes no network requests, so there is no traffic to log even if we wanted to.

What stays on the device

Two things are remembered between sessions: the animals marked as favourites, and the two switches on the Settings screen (sound effects and haptics). They are stored by the app on the device itself and are never sent anywhere. Deleting the app deletes them.

If the device is backed up to iCloud, that backup is Apple’s and is covered by Apple’s privacy policy rather than this one.

The App Store

Downloads are handled by Apple, not by us. Apple gives developers aggregate statistics — how many downloads in which territory, and crash reports if you have chosen to share those with developers. That data reaches us already aggregated and cannot be traced back to a person or a device. What Apple itself collects is described in the App Store’s own privacy terms.

This website

animalsoundsapp.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no trackers, fonts or scripts from anyone else. Everything on the page, including the animal photos and the recordings it plays, is served from this site.

The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps ordinary server logs — IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time — for operating and protecting the service. Those logs are kept for a short period by Vercel and are not used to build a profile of anyone.

Children

The app is often handed to a child, so it is worth saying plainly: because nothing is collected from anyone, there is nothing about a child to collect, share or sell either. That, rather than a consent screen, is how it meets rules on children’s data such as the GDPR and COPPA.

There is no advertising and no messaging. The only links that leave the app are on its Credits screen, where each row opens the page an asset came from.

Your rights

The GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete, export or object to the processing of your personal data. Since the app and this site hold none, there is nothing to hand over or erase.

If you email us, we hold that email and our reply for as long as it takes to deal with it. Ask us to delete it and we will. You may also complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority at personuvernd.is.

Changes to this policy

If the app or the site ever starts doing something this page does not describe, this page changes first and the date under the title changes with it. The current version is always the one published here.
